XIED on 2009 Touring Bikes Update
There are multiple reports of XIED's being used on late manufacture date 2009 Touring Bikes without any of the issues encountered when the bikes first came out. Here is what we have learned.
Reliable reports from the field on 2009 Touring bikes with VIN numbers higher than 5000 seem to running without any of the issues seen earlier with the XiED's on these bikes. Specifically bikes with VIN's in the 5200 and 6000 range were reported as running normally with XIED's installed. There may be other 09 Touring bikes out there that we are not aware of that are also running fine.
While we have not certified the XiED's for the 2009 Touring bikes yet, it seems that H-D made some internal changes to the the ECM's on these bikes. Because we can find no changes to the wiring harness, the EFI software load or external changes to any parts, the only thing left is an engineering change to the ECM board.
Riders of late VIN 2009 Touring bikes may choose to experiment on their own. S&P Mullen Enterprises and Nightrider Performance Parts can not officially sanction the use of XiED's on any 09 Touring bike ridden on the road. But any rider that can installs a set of XiED's and can report any results of idling the engine or statically running the engine in their driveway or on a dyno, I would appreciate any updated information along with your VIN number.
