2010 H-D Touring O2 Sensor Relocation Upgrade
Nightrider has been working on an upgrade for the 2010 Harley Touring bike to allow the use of the OEM 2010 peanut sensor in older, standard size O2 sensor bungs. This kit would effectively allow a rider to relocate the OEM 2010 narrow band O2 sensors using any 2009 or earlier exhaust system that will fit on your Touring bike. I know there is interest in using older style exhaust systems on the 2010 Touring bikes and relocating the O2 sensors on these bikes. This upgrade kit would allow that to happen.
I have seen discussion in WEB Forums and talked with many riders about these issues. I am aware that there is a serious heat issue from the catalytic converters on the 2010 Touring bikes. But trying to cut or chisel out the converter to reduce heat or improve performance is almost guaranteed to negatively impact closed loop ECM performance of your 2010 bagger. The location of the peanut O2 sensors make it very important that back pressure is maintained in order that the ECM get proper AFR readings from the sensors for optimum performance. Without adequate back pressure, the O2 sensors will not get stable AFR readings and the ECM can not properly control the fuel mixture in closed loop operating mode.
One possible solution is to relocate the O2 sensors to the location used in the 2007-2009 engines, just below the exhaust port on the heads. While there is a certain risk from high heat damage to the sensors in the location, there are some design precautions that can be taken to bring the risk down to that of the 07-09 OEM H-D sensors. The only issue at this point is adapting the OEM 2010 wiring harness to the relocated sensors.
Nightrider.com wants to hear from you this upgrade is interesting to you. We have had this design on our drawing table since early August, 2009. The O2 sensor adapters are being built right now. Our 2010 XiED Adapter Cables are in production right now, so making longer wiring harness relocation cables is just a matter going back to the production shop. These relocation cables could be used as a straight through cable, allowing use of software tuning tools, or allow the integration of an XiED, VIED or AFXiED.
